Exterior Remodeling: The Best Bang for Your Buck
by Tyler on 12/24/09
Despite the so called “slow market” in 2009 for Northern Virginia and slight decrease in remodeling projects, some of the smartest improvements are the least expensive. Small scale exterior projects are the most beneficial and profitable at resale according to recent surveys.
On a national level, 8 out 10 projects in terms of costs recouped were exterior replacement projects under $14,000. Some of the top recouped costs were steel door replacements, fiber-cement siding replacements, and wood deck additions. Other exterior projects in the top 10 include vinyl and upscale foam-backed vinyl siding replacements and window replacements.
Even simple landscaping costing as little as $1,000 will make your home shine above the rest. The problem with sellers is that they don’t want to do anything to improve the house on their way out because they figure they are not going to live there anymore. It’s always smart to do your research to see what the most efficient ways to recoup your costs are. At this point in time, so much valuable information is available at your fingertips on the internet. You almost can’t go wrong and if you’re totally lost, then ask a Realtor®.
The 2009 Remodeling Cost vs. Value report compares construction costs with resale values for 33 remodeling projects in 80 markets across the nation.
